Do you approve?

UPDATE: Turns out there’s ONE more public Council meeting before the political bosses steamroll our Planning Board into approving the sacrifice of Borough-owned green space on N. Passaic! ONE last chance to talk the Council off this ledge! That chance is TUESDAY, May 27, 2025, 7:30 pm, Borough Hall, 54 Main Street, upper level. (It’s set to start at 6:30 pm, but they usually open it to the public at 7:30 pm.)

Great turnout at the May 12th Borough Council meeting, to talk about the Council‘s plan to sacrifice this precious patch of Borough-owned, open, green space at 58 North Passaic (just north of Memorial Field) to build an apartment project.

Why did the Council suddenly spring this on us now, a plan to develop such a green little lot?

Why not put that apartment project on another Borough lot, preferably one that’s already developed, underused, and a drain on taxpayers?

Unless you can talk some sense into our Council WELL BEFORE JUNE 18, they definitely will do away with that little green space on North Passaic forever.

Last chance to make a difference is the Council meeting on May 27th, 7:30 pm, at Borough Hall, 54 Fairmount Avenue.

If you can’t attend that meeting in person, then do it on Zoom. https://www.chathamborough.org

Overdevelopment Emergency

Please share with friends around the state:

The dominant political party in Trenton is trying to rush through a state law that would trigger even more reckless overdevelopment, by overriding most local control of zoning and allowing big builders to gobble up almost every town, building many more huge, high-density apartment blocks – against your wishes and at your expense.

Only you can stop this calamity. So please, drop everything. Take a moment to tell your state senator and representative to “Vote no on bill A4/S50.”

It’s easy and takes less than a minute. Simply enter your address here: https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/district-map or use the drop down menu to find your town here: https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/legislative-roster

Also please recruit friends around the state to help contact these powerful state Senators:

Don’t sacrifice Chatham to the big developer!

Now we have a great alternative for the 5 acres behind the Main Street Post Office!

It includes more surface parking and a pretty public green space.

Longtime Chatham businesswoman and civic leader Fran Drew conceived this idea as an alternative to the proposals offered by the big Kushner developers, who stand to profit by using corporate welfare PILOT tax breaks to build a project that will destroy our little Chatham Borough, with big expenses and even more traffic on Main Street.

Chatham residents are excited about this fresh idea, which is aimed at preserving and enhancing our community.

Are you tired of ever-worsening traffic on Main Street?

Make sure this idea gets a fair hearing before our Mayor and Borough Council.

Let our Mayor and Borough Council know what you think: mayor@chathamborough.org
